So it’s the last day of “Dry January”, how did you do? The movement, which started in 2014 to urge us to begin the new year healthier than we may have ended the previous one, has gained a lot of momentum. I for one stopped by wine subscription last year and didn’t replenish my typically well-stocked bar in favor or a healthier lifestyle. Plus the headaches, even minor ones from one or two glasses, wasn’t worth it anymore. I started making up my own cocktails with Kombucha, ginger, cayenne, lemon and herbs. As long as I put it in a pretty glass with garnish courtesy of my back yard planters I realized that I really just liked the process of pouring something special for myself at the end of the evening. I wasn’t the alcohol at all (well maybe just a little bit it was). I must have been talking about this a lot because I started getting ads in my Instagram feed for non-alcoholic cocktail options like Kin and Curious Elixirs. I took the plunge with at $30 bottle of Seedlip Spice 94 based on the clear color and pretty bottle alone. Don’t make the mistake of drinking this alone, it’s meant to be mixed with other things but once I got the hang of it I enjoyed pulling it from the bar cart and tossing it in a shaker with grapefruit juice and rosemary and topping it off with some grapefruit seltzer. My recipe is a work in progress but it’s basically 2 oz. Seedlip Spice, 2 oz. fresh ruby red grapefruit juice, a few pieces of crushed rosemary, ice and a little honey. Garnish with a peel of grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary.

Cheers!
