I get way more pleasure out of writing a thank you note than the addressee probably gets in receiving it. I love to sit down at my desk and feel the weight of a real pen and quality paper and I still open every envelope that arrives with a letter opener. The photo above is what’s left of my first grown-up “fancy” stationery. It’s from Mrs. John L. Strong luxury stationers located at 699 Madison Avenue in New York. The atelier is a must-visit for elegant engraved note cards. Customers include seven presidential families, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, Anna Wintour and Oprah Winfrey. I purchased mine on a shopping trip with my mother to Barney’s in the ‘90’s and only have a few pieces remaining which I’ll never part with. The holidays are a busy time and this year they seem to have arrived and left more quickly than ever. While it’s best to send a thank you note within a few days after receiving a gift, it’s never too late to send an expression of thanks. Here are some tips to help you stay on top of your note writing.
Thank You Note Tips:
Always keep a box of nice note cards on hand
Purchase a sheet or two of pretty stamps in advance so you don’t have to go hunting for them. There is a larger selection at usps.com
Keep your address book (I love you if you still have this!) or app or spreadsheet updated so it’s easy to find mailing addresses
